Through The Pain

She sat in bed
with clear and black tears
running down her cheeks
and a quivering cigarette
in her mouth; after a time,
her lips found the strength
to stretch a smile.

And I thought to myself:
Sometimes my love, when
there’s so much trouble
and you don’t know why,
when no ones to blame
but earth and sky;
just listen to my voice

               and my heart,

will be through the pain.
